After graduating from Vanderbilt, Mary Margaret Peel trained as a professional medical illustrator. For over 30 years she worked as a medical illustrator and as head of the Medical Media department at the VA where she directed graphic design, photography, and other visual support for its medical teaching programs affiliated with Vanderbilt University in Nashville.  Her illustrations have been published in books and numerous medical journals over the years.  She has studied painting with several prominent artists including Gus Baker, Anton Weiss, Joseph Sulkowski, Elizabeth Brandon, Connie Ericsson, Jerry Barnes, Juanita Greene Parks, Roger Dale Brown, and TJ Cunningham.  She has studied portraiture with internationally renowned portrait painters Daniel Greene, John Howard Sanden, and Michael Shane Neal.  In 2015 she studied portraiture and figure painting in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art and she recently studied in New York with the famous pastel portraitist, Wende Caporale.  She is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the National Portrait Institute, JGP Artists, and The Chestnut Group.  Her paintings and portraits can be found in private collections in the southeast.
